About

I’m Marisol Blanche, and I write paranormal and fantasy romance: fated bonds, dangerous magic, and non-human love interests who have no business being as swoonworthy as they are. Marisol is one of a few pen names I write under; this site is the Marisol corner of the world, where I set down the author hat and pick up the teacher’s.

Here’s what writing this genre for a living has taught me: the tropes are the job. Nobody opens a fated-mates romance hoping I’ll cleverly subvert the fated mating. They come for the promise. And they know the instant I break one. I’ve kept those promises, and I’ve broken a few badly enough to learn exactly how it happens. This blog is where I take tropes apart and show how they actually work: the promise each one makes, the scenes that pay it off, and the quiet ways it falls apart.

It’s written for writers, whether you’re drafting your first shifter romance or your fifteenth fae court. No vague “show, don’t tell.” Just the working mechanics of the tropes readers love, from someone who writes them on deadline.

So pull up a trope and see what I mean.
